The crown of thorns was just one instrument that produced seven streams of blood that flowed from Jesus suffering and passion on the cross of Calvary. Each stream provides a different benefit for those who have trusted in the precious blood of Jesus. This article is just one part of a series of articles.
One of the most gruesome things that happened to Jesus was the crown of thorns. The crown of thorns was meant to be a mockery of his kingship. You see Jesus Christ is King. He was the eternal preexistent Word who reigned over the universe. One day he will reign on the earth for 1000 years!
I can assure you that it was not by accident that they chose thorns to mock his kingship. The thorns speak of divine judgment, the curse of the garden of Eden. Before sin entered the world, there were no thorns, but after sin came, the curse brought thorns and briers upon the earth. In those days, dried thorn bushes provided fuel for fire or hedges to keep animals in their pens. What a cruel thing that as they took Jesus to trial, during the time of his suffering, there came the cry: “Make a crown of thorns. Put it on his head.” And with cruelty and mockery in their hearts, the Roman soldiers placed that crown of thorns upon his head and a stream of blood was opened.
Matthew 27:28,29 “They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.”
Mark goes on to say in Mark 15:19 “Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him.”
In a mockery of his kinship they pretended to worship him, laughing at him. Above his cross was written in three languages. Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews!
It is said that many criminals as they were being executed lapsed into a state of insanity. But the sayings of Jesus on the cross prove that he never even once lost his faculties. Jesus prayers prove his sanity.
Even for those who crucified him, all he showed was love. He said Father forgive them, they do not know what they are doing!
The crown of thorns was worn by the King of kings because he knew that one of the places that Satan likes to attack believers is in the realm of their mind.
The crown of thorns encircled the mind of Jesus. That crown purchased the right for every one of us to have a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 KJV says “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
The good news is that because of what Jesus did on the cross, you mind can be healed. Satan loves to torment a persons mind. The deeper one goes in sin, the more one must allow Satanic lies to permeate their mind . His lies will make a person crazy. Addicts in 12 step programs look to a higher power to restore them to sanity. I proclaim that higher power to be Jesus!
We hear the brokenness of humanities minds in common expressions: “You’re losing it. He is a few French fries short of a happy meal.” A lot of people in this world…have tormented minds. They can’t sleep at night. They worry. They fret, they struggle.
The good news is Jesus can heal your mind. The crown of thorns was worn by our Lord so that we could have sound minds.
Hebrews 12:3 KJV “For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
This verse tells us to consider what they did to Jesus. Understand that he wore the crown so your mind could be sound and strong.
I have literally seen peoples mind come clear not only as they accepted the Living Word Jesus into their heart, but also as they meditated on the Written word! The bible calls it the washing of water by the word. Someone said, “I am messed up. I can’t think straight. I can’t focus.” Give your life to Jesus! Start reading the word every day. I can assure you that you will gain a clear mind.
There are government websites where millions of dollars are waiting to be claimed by their rightful owners. This is a benefit often unclaimed by believers. The crown of thorns gave you the right to a sound mind as a child of God. It is a benefit for you.
There is a battle for your mind going on every day. Satan wants your mind filled with fear and worry and lack of peace. But as a believer, because of the crown of thorns you have a right to this confession and declaration
“I am a believer in Jesus! I have a sound mind! The blood Jesus spilled wearing the crown of thorns provides healing for my mind! I receive the gift of his peace as my mind is stayed upon Him, I have the mind of Christ. I claim complete healing over any torment, guilt, worry or uneasiness in my mind! In Jesus name! Amen.

My name is Jay Marquitz and I am a devout catholic I am a mental health consumer and my diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder and ocd and thought broadcasting I receive ect treatments once a week every other week for maintenance the next time I receive a treatment I am going to reflect on Jesus’s crown of thorns and how my mental suffering can be united to his suffering

Early this morning, as I was laying awake, praying, I saw in my mind’s eye that I was sitting on the ground. Jesus had died and His cross and body brought down to the ground. I was sitting at the top of the cross and looked right at the top of Jesus’ head. I saw the matted hair, crown of thorns and dried blood. I grieved. It was over in a few seconds.
I had prayed last night the Lord would give me a strategy for how to intercede for people with mental illness, like I used to have. I believe this closed vision was the answer to my prayer. I journaled afterward on the merits of what the blood shed by the crown of thorns did. It gives us sound mind and renews our mind as we meditate on the Word of God, as our minds are washed by the water of the Word. Thoughts get captured unto His thoughts and lined up with His, over time. Our minds are set free and our hearts healed.

I disagree with your non-scriptural personal interpretation pertaining to the “Crown of Thorns” placed on Jesus head. The Roman soldiers did this purely to mock and humiliate Jesus. We have complete healing through the stripes Jesus took on His back, which includes any mental health issues one might be going through.

Curious if you find a connection between the crown of thorns and the protective hedges provided for Job. Yes the romans meant it for mockery but perhaps in ignorance they at least, symbolically, provided a hedge of protection around the head/mind of Christ when he most needed it. I always felt God was fine with taking the physical hedge of protection away from Job because the true hedge of protection was around his heart.

what a blessing to have come come across this post. for a couple of months now, in rembrance of Christ, as I give thanks for the finished work on the cross, being bound, allowing the rendering of the veil of his flesh, claiming the healing including wearing the crown of thorns. Recently I was prompted to really look at the crown of thorns and as I was studying it, above the pain, I saw all kinds on mental anguish and torment and sickness being absorbed and it was no longer mine.Even His placement on the Cross causing difficulty breathing was for our benefit..I thank God for blessing me in my new life and the finished work of Christ, His resurrection, and ascension…The Propitiation, Mediator, and Atonement for my sins….May the Lord continually and do exceeding abundantly above all you ask or think..In Jesus name.
Came across this post today After a vision of Jesus’s crown. I said ok God, I’ll bite. I’ll research the crown. Then all these phrases started speaking to me, Did God really put this article here for me? Then more words that hit home, not a coincidence that my mind is troubled, get a vision of Jesus’s Crown and then this article with too many words that hit home. Thank you Pastor. I am a Catholic and love it now but that wasn’t always the case. I was a horrible sinner and now I’m not. I was one way and now I’m different. But that comes with much guilt and shame. Deserving, you bet. Guilt is one thing, but the shame is cut wrenching. After reading this, I at least know that Jesus knows where I’m at and He understands. How I reconcile my shame, I do not knew yet. But I have hope. Thank you again Sir. God Bless🙂

Thank you for this as it was very helpful and encouraging. A couple of weeks ago I had a very short vision of who I believe to be was Jesus putting the crown of thorns on my head. About 7 years ago, I had a psychotic break and was in the pit for two years. Thanks to Jesus, he has completely restored and has healed my mind. Much prayers to you!!
